The Challenge
To begin this project, it was necessary to conduct an asbestos test, as there was a high likelihood of its presence given that the house was built in 1890. Asbestos testing often takes considerable time, depending on how the laboratory handles the analysis. To address this concern, we sent a sample of the wall scheduled for removal to be analyzed. Although this required pausing the work for a couple of weeks, the test results fortunately confirmed that no asbestos was present.
The Solution
With this assurance, we successfully proceeded with the plan, removing the wall to expand the bathroom and transform it into a larger, open-concept space. This allowed more features to be added to the project, from the inset shelf to a full walk-in shower. Other elements were added using the additional space, such as a sitting bench and glass front panel/door. These added features made the shower the featured element in the complete bathroom makeover project.
